Why did you choose to specialize in gastroenterology?
When I was in training as a physician, I became fascinated with the digestive system and the profound effect gastrointestinal intestinal disease could have upon people’s lives. The ability to combine the technical expertise of challenging procedures with the opportunity to form long-term relationships with my patients managing complex chronic conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease is unique to this profession.
What are your areas of special interest and expertise within gastroenterology?
I spent the first eight years of my career on the full-time faculty at Mount Sinai where I was focused on inflammatory bowel disease and improving colorectal cancer screening in underserved populations. In practice, I see individuals with a variety of complaints including peptic disease, gastrointestinal reflux disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and irritable bowel disease.
Do you have any special honors, recognition, or achievements in your medical career that you would like to share?
I am an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine and have served as the Director of Regulatory Affairs/Quality Assurance for the Department of Medicine as well as Associate Program Director of the Division of Gastroenterology. I am especially proud to have been awarded as Outstanding Preceptor to our GI Fellows and recognized as Humanitarian of the Year by the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of New York.
What do you and your family enjoy doing during your spare time?
I am an avid cyclist. My wife and I enjoy hiking and attending modern dance performances.
