Primary biliary cholangitis is a chronic autoimmune disorder in which the immune system attacks the small bile ducts of the liver. Many people are asymptomatic early on in this condition, but common symptoms include fatigue and pruritus. Over time, the disease can progress and result in cirrhosis and possibly a need for liver transplantation. Early diagnosis is important as treatment can slow down and even prevent progression of the disease if caught early enough.
